Punjab Government Announced Schools to Discontinue Free Book Distribution for Students

In the most recent update in the field of education, the Punjab Education Department has announced the discontinuation of the practice of providing free books to students. Previously, students ranging from Nursery to 10th class used to receive complimentary textbooks from their respective schools. However, recent changes have been implemented in this aspect.

Starting this year, only 50 percent of students from the sixth to the tenth standard and 80 percent of fourth and fifth standard students will be entitled to receive free books. The remaining books for all schools will be completed by reclaiming them from students who have successfully passed their classes this year.

On a separate note, the Punjab Education Department has received a request from the Ministry of Interior urging the closure of all educational institutions across the province due to a perceived security threat. If Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi approves this request, all schools and colleges will remain closed from January 25 to January 28, 2024.
