Since the implementation of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan, the matter of education in the country has predominantly become a subject under the jurisdiction of the provinces. This shift occurred when the responsibility of the Department of Education was shifted from the federal level to the provincial level.
The establishment of the ministry occurred in July 2011. The organization had a name change in 2013, becoming the Ministry of Education, Training, and Standards of Higher Education. Subsequently, in 2014, it underwent another name change and became the Ministry of Federal Education and Vocational Training.
